  • The Co-Parenting Survival Guide: Letting Go of Conflict after a Difficult Divorce by Thayer & Zimmerman. A helpful guide for parents regardless of whether they are in high conflict over issues relating to their children. Drs. Thayer and Zimmerman are specialists who are highly respected by Connecticut courts, attorneys and other mental health professionals. They do not provide therapy, but rather in education and strategies for divorced and divorcing parents.

  • Mom's House, Dad's House: A Complete Guide for Parents Who Are Separated, Divorced, or Remarried. By Isolina Ricci, Ph.D. A book that deals specifically with the complex issues of shared parenting. The groundbreaking classic, now revised, updated and expanded, covers the legal, financial and emotional realities of creating two happy and stable homes for children in the often difficult and confusing aftermath of a divorce.

  • Vicki Lansky's Divorce Book for Parents - An inexpensive and short, but helpful book, on parenting during and after divorce.

Statewide Legal Services is the intake agency and starting point for accessing legal assistance for low income persons in Connecticut.   • CT Dept. of Social Services Child Support Resource Center and Bureau of Child Support Enforcement. The program provides the following services: location of absent parents, establishment of paternity, establishment and modification of support orders, enforcement of support orders, establishment and modification of medical support, collection and distribution of support payments.     (888) 774-2900. The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence provides support to women who have experienced domestic violence, emotionally and/or physically. Programs include emergency shelter, crisis intervention, assistance with restraining orders, and referral services.

  • Wheeler Clinic. Wheeler Clinic Crisis Services. Many programs of assistance for parents experiencing crisis or stress in their relationship with their children, who abuse or at risk of abusing their children.   • Female Inmates Legal Assistance, 78 Oak Street, P.O. Box 260237, Hartford, CT 860-246-1118 (requests preferred in writing). The Inmates' Legal Assistance Program (ILAP) is a state-contracted private law firm that helps female inmates in civil matters family matters, such as divorce, child support, visitation, and custody issues. (Male inmates are helped only with issues and conditions of confinement).

  • First Church of Christ Wethersfield has weekly Friday Night Divorce Support meetings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM for those dealing with recent separation or divorce.  First Church also has a Friday Night Singles (7:00 p.m.) program to provide a welcoming and accepting environment for all single adults to find opportunities for fun, learning, friendship and spiritual enrichment. a semi-annual divorce recovery program with discussion groups, and programs for singles. In addition, First Church sponsors a Singles in Service program with is an action group providing service were needed in the community (Printable Flyer).
