Read Before You Write

I like to hear from visitors to my website. I have worked to build a website of resources to help individuals obtain plain language information --without puffing and hype-- on a variety of legal topics. I like to hear reactions to site content, design, and suggestions for improvement.

I like to hear about new developments in the law. I am especially appreciative when people write to tell me about dead links or that a reference is out of date. Some people write simply to share their stories without asking for advice. But . . . .

time, expense and legal ethics preclude me from:

  • commenting on any cases from states other than Connecticut;

  • giving legal advice via email;

  • commenting on the particular facts of any case or personal situation via email;

  • returning long distance phone calls;

  • providing research for school projects.

Many people call or write to ask about the statute of limitations for civil sexual abuse cases in their state. The information that I have concerning each state is located on the Statutes Page. I cannot comment about how their case fits into a state statute (other than in Connecticut, the state I practice in). For steps on locating a lawyer, look at the First Steps page.

Some people write concerning reporting child abuse. Please contact local authorities. If you have questions about whether you should report, you should contact local authorities or speak to a lawyer. If you are a professional with a mandatory duty to report, call your professional association; there may provide someone to give you advice or a referral.
